plastic-free chinese food

here's how it's done:

1. go to restaurant
2. order
3. say "could you please use this container?"
4. hand them your tupperware or re-use a chinese food container
5. when they're putting your order into a bag, say "i don't need a plastic bag."
6. be ever-vigilant. they will try to sneak a plastic spoon in there. you don't need it.
7. enjoy!

it works.. try it!

Awesome! Good job. I try to remember to limit the plastic and waste when I get take out (I even have the Indian restaurant across the street from my office trained to skip the bag and plastic utensils and paper napkins) but I am not so good as you are. Must remember to bring my own container next time and see how that flies. Thanks for the inspiration.

thanks! it was all about the baby steps for me. first time i tried bringing my own container, i was only getting miso soup. pretty easy. the second time i got miso soup and an order of broccoli with garlic sauce. so it was really easy to figure out what size/ how many containers i needed. good luck!

Awesome!

We use a stainless steel tiffin to get our Chinese food. I'm not so crazy about the idea of hot food in plastic... so I don't take the Tupperware for anything hot.

Our local Chinese restaurant, Becky's, has never given us any hassle about bringing our own.

Of course, this doesn't work for delivery. So we just don't get Chinese food delivered anymore. Well, actually I do. My delivery person is my husband.
